Lewis stars as knight in Charlemagne's court

LONDON — Helmer Raoul Ruiz has marshaled a cast headed by John Malkovich, Michael Madsen, Daryl Hannah, Peter O'Toole, Damian Lewis, Saffron Burrows and Virginie Ledoyen for his period epic "Love and Virtue," about the battles that raged within King Charlemagne's empire.

Brit thesp Lewis toplines as a knight in King Charlemagne's court who falls for Ledoyen's character. Malkovich and Madsen play barbarian marauders. Stephen Dillane ("The Hours") plays Charlemagne, the first ruler of a united Western Europe since the fall of the Roman Empire.

"Love and Virtue" is produced by Fountain of Life Productions from a script penned by Mia Sperber and Stefano Pratesi. The script is based on epic poems "The Song of Roland" and "Orlando Innamorato."

Scribe Sperber produces for U.K.-based Fountain of Life alongside Alex Sullivan for the Leo Media and Entertainment Group. The co-producers are Jimmy de Brabant and Bob Bellion of Delux Productions and Kwesi Dickson of Future Films. John Daly exec produces.


The cast also includes Leonor Varela ("Blade II"), Vincent Perez ("Nouvelle-France"), Cristian de la Fuente (CSI: Miami"), Anna Massey ("The Importance of Being Earnest") and child thesps Alexa Rey and Boo Boo Stewart.

The project sees the Chilean helmer reteam with "Klimt" stars Malkovich, Burrows and Dillane.

Raoul Ruiz’s period epic Love And Virtue has lined up a strong interernational cast including Damian Lewis, Virginie Ledoyen, John Malkovich, Peter O’Toole, Saffron Burrows, Stephen Dillane, Leonor Varela, Vincent Perez, Daryl Hannah, Michael Madsen, Melvil Poupaud, Anna Massey, Cristian de la Fuente Max Ryan, Alexa Rey and Boo Boo Stewart.

Lewis plays the hero, Orlando, a knight in King Charlemagne’s court who is in love with Ledoyen’s Angelica.

The story, based on legends The Song Of Roland and Orlando Innamorato, follows an original script by Mia Sperber and Stefano Pratesi. Epic stories of love and loyalties in Charlemange’s empire will be explored with a mystical touch.

Sperber is producing for Fountain of Life Productions alongside Alex Sullivan for The Leo Media and Entertainment Group.

Co-producers are Jimmy de Brabant and Bob Bellion of Delux Productions with Kwesi Dickson of Future Films. John Daly is executive producing.

British leading actor Damian Lewis (STORMBREAKER) will play the story’s valiant hero Orlando, faithful knight to King Charlemagne’s Court who is passionately in love with the beautiful Angelica, played by stunning French actress Virginie Ledoyen (BOSQUE DE SOMBRAS, THE BEACH).  The stellar international cast includes John Malkovich (RIPLEY’S GAME, BEING JOHN MALKOVICH) as the Barbarian leader Rodomonte; British actor Peter O’Toole (VENUS,ONE NIGHT WITH THE KING) as the wise wizard Atlantes who gives guidance to the heroes; Saffron Burrows (PERFECT CREATURE,  BROKEN THREAD) as the beautiful and courageous female knight Bradamante; Stephen Dillane (THE HOURS) as the Emperor Charlemagne, a great man of virtue and moral standing whose intention it is to unify the people of Europe against the invaders in a community of truth and care for others.  Also starring Leonor Varela (BLADE II) as the sexy, provocative Morgana, Orlando’s temptress; Vincent Perez (NOUVELLE-FRANCE) as Barbarian knight Ruggiero who joins Charlemagne’s army for love of Bradamante; Cristiàn de la Fuente (CSI: MIAMI) as evil knight Ferrau who pursues Angelica and slays her brother Argalia (Max Ryan);
